Optical communications have evolved quickly during the past years. They have proved to be capable of providing a never-imagined bandwidth to the core network, and their capacity is still growing, thanks to the WDM technologies. Optical communications are not only for high-bandwidth trunk links, such as SDH / SONET, but also for other technologies, for example GigE or CaTV. Trend's family of optical testers is designed for the new age of optical communications. The easy operation, rugged design and long life batteries of these testers make them very suitable for field use. However, their advanced features and an accuracy traceable to international standards are critical for laboratory tasks. |

Optical Loss Test Set
Trend's Optical Loss Test Set is capable of characterising the loss of optical communications networks. The outstanding features of this tool include a large memory to store results, an external PC software for analysis and autotest capability to simultaneously configure all the testers participating in the measurement. |
|
Optical Attenuator
Trend's Optical Attenuator provides configurable, precise attenuation to optical links in the range of 2 dB and 60 dB. This tool is the perfect complement to any tester for optical networks. It is useful for link simulation and optical margin testing. |
|
Optical Power Meter
Trend's Optical Power Meter is a tester that enables field technicians or laboratory personnel to measure power and loss in optical links. The included InGaAs receiver has an exceptional accuracy that is combined with an extremely simple user interface. |

Accurate
Trend's Optical testers offer superior accuracy and linearity. The Optical Attenuator exhibits a very flat response over the whole optical transmission band. This is a key feature for testing CWDM and DWDM systems. Trend's Optical Loss and Optical Power test sets are supplied with an InGaAs receiver with exceptional accuracy traceable to international measurement standards. These testers are calibrated at various WDM frequencies, and this makes them very suitable for installation and troubleshooting of even the most innovative optical networks. Reliable
Trend's optical testers have a rugged design to guarantee a long life under hard working conditions. A two-year warranty protects the tools from any manufacturing defects, and a fully traceable calibration process guarantees entirely confident testing for years. The optical testers have hundreds of hours of battery life, and the optical connectors are protected by field-replaceable snap-on covers. Simple
Get the Optical Power Meter working with just a few keystrokes and simplify setup to the maximum by means of the autotest feature that allows the equipment to be configured automatically when it works in a team with another tester of the family. Remote Control
The exclusive remote control and analysis software (Optical Attenuator and Optical Loss test set) extends and improves the measurement capabilities of the testers:
- Live interactive display: Ideal for remote management or training.
- Real-time data logging: Live graphs and statistical functions with data saved directly to disk.
- Result storage: Results can be stored in the tester's memory and later exported to a spreadsheet originating from multiple instruments.
- Label Printing in user definable formats and in any size for easy fibre identification.

Continuity Test
Optical fibre can be easily identified by Trend's Optical Loss Test Set, using the tone generation an detection feature: A test signal of selectable frequency is transmitted through the optical fibre to be identified. This feature is also useful to test end-to-end transparency of optical links and networks.
Received Power in PONs
In PONs, the signal from the OLT crosses through a passive optical splitter that causes extra attenuation. The Optical Loss Test Set evaluates the received power and optical loss at the customer side and checks if they are within acceptable ranges.
Optical Margin Measurement
The optical margin is comonly measured during installation. The margin is the amount of power that can be lost in a link while still maintaining a minimun quality level. The test can be carried out with Trend's Optical Attenuator by increasing the attenuation of the link in steps and measuring the BER for every value. With Trend's Optical Attenuator, the test is easier to carry out, because different values of attenuation are sequenced automatically.
Line Simulation
When commissioning transmission equipment, a link is sometimes needed for testing, but this is not always possible. Trend's Optical Attenuator can simulate an optical link with the advantage that the length of the link can be easily configured and modified.

Telecom Operators
Optical links have been used traditionally by telcos for transmission of huge amounts of information over long distances. Basic installation and troubleshooting of such links can be carried out by Trend's optical testers. These testers improve and complement the measurement capabilities of other Trend testers, such as Victoria Combo and Victoria SDH. Installers
Many times, installation and maintenance of links and networks is assigned to installers. The availability of simple and productive testes is of critical importance to them. Carriers
Those companies owning an optical network and leasing it to operators will find the measuring capabilities of Trend's optical testers useful for installation and maintenance purposes. Cable Operators
Cable operators deliver TV and data signals to their customers by means of a coaxial electrical interface, but optical communications are applied to the HFC distribution networks of these operators. For them it is important to guarantee good operating conditions of their installations. Research and Development Laboratories
Easy operation, rugged design and long-life batteries make Trend's optical testers suitable for field use. But high-level accuracy and full traceability to international measurement patterns are critical for the most demanding laboratory applications. |
