Add&Drop multiplexers (ADM) These let plesiochronous
or synchronous signals (called tributary signals) be added and dropped
from synchronous frames from a higher level (called aggregate signals).
They are a basic element in networks with ring topologies,
especially suitable for redundant configurations and tolerant to failures.
They are flexible and versatile and their use, together with that of the
ring topology, is now commonplace.
